ABOUT Sherif Nakhla C.E.O.
Having spent his childhood in the United States, Sherif moved to Egypt where he graduated with a BA in Theatre and another BA in Mass Communication & Journalism from the American University in Cairo. He started his professional career as a reporter for the Al-Ahram Weekly culture section – gaining special insights into Cairo’s film, art and music scenes. His theatre works include Moliere’s Don Juan, which opened the 2003 Theatre Festival at the Bibliotheca in Alexandria, Eugene Ionesco’s ‘The Lesson’ at El Sawy Cultural Centre and David Mamet’s ‘Oleanna’ staring Amina Khalil at A.U.C. in 2010.
In 2005, Sherif joined Tarek Nour Communications as a producer of the hit television show TAXI Candid Camera and later produced and created shows for Real Time Productions, such as Mazazik.tv, which was purchased by the Kuwaiti Channel El Rai.
Having been exposed to two different cultures and lifestyles, Sherif became fascinated by the Western/Arab cultural divide and prejudices that often result from lack of communication on both sides. Such was his topic of interest when he applied to the McGill University’s Sauve Scholars leadership program where he was successfully selected among 800 applicants. Sherif thrived working in a multicultural environment and applied his experience as first assistant to the line producer for Dreamwork's Transformers 2 facilitating the collaboration between the American and Egyptian crews during the production.
Following this one-in-a-lifetime experience, Sherif took the plunge and directed, wrote, composed music and produced his first film Miraculum. Acclaimed by the critics, the film entered over 25 international film festivals, and won three awards including 'Outstanding Achievement in Filmmaking' at the Newport Beach Film Festival and 'Best Sociopolitical film' at the New York Independent International Film Festival and was later sold to the FRANCE TELEVISIONS network. Sherif’s following film 'Les Petits Chats’ landed a distribution deal with the prominent Mad Solutions, and has achieved more cinematic screenings than any other feature documentary in Egypt including ten days at Vox cinemas.
Regarding developed projects, Sherif has recently signed his comedy-drama series 'Falafel El Sheikh' with Al Masa Productions who are currently seeking a digital platform or TV channel deal before starting production . Also, Sherf's recently written comedy series' Be A Star', co-created with Ramsi Lehner & Luke Lehner, is currently seeking a production deal. Finally, a feature film comedy conceived by Asser Yassin is currently in development with Sherif on board as his co-screenwriter and director.
Additionally, Sherif has been an active professional photographer, music producer and reputable local DJ since 2005 with a repertoire of his work available on palmettopictures.com.
